“You don’t have to be a Movie Star to have someone help you look your best…”
–Lindsey Foley
Lindsey Winick Foley has started her own Personal Styling consultancy, based in Marblehead and serving the Boston area.
After working in the fashion and advertising business for over 10 years—and cultivating a life-long “obsession with style”—Lindsey determined that this field was a natural fit. “It was funny… people were always asking me for advice on what to wear and where to shop.” Matching this inherent knack for fashion with the fact that Lindsey is also a new mother who recently moved back to Marblehead—this career was a “no-brainer.”
Her clients run the gamut in terms of their needs and budget—and “no project is too big or too small.” Lindsey generally starts with a “Closet Consultation” where she meets her client at their home, and meticulously goes through their wardrobe with them. “There’s something cathartic about this… I’ve found that a lot of people can let their closets get a little bit out of control—with years of past trends mounting into a disorganized mish-mash…” During this process, which Lindsey says is “often a lot of fun,” she puts together a plan—which is typically a list of items which they both agree are needed. Then Lindsey will schedule shopping, which she can do either with her client, or on her own. Following this meeting, her clients often make trips to drop off bags of clothing at a local charity. “Hey, it’s not a bad write-off at the end of the year; this stuff can really add up… and it’s nice to know that the clothing can have a second life” explains Foley.
Lindsey stresses that she “really likes to be interactive with my clients—everyone is different and has their own unique style and needs… whether it be clothing appropriate for the workplace, more conservative casual wear, or more cutting edge ‘going out’ looks.” Lindsey doesn’t just work with women. “One of my first clients was a man whose wife had graciously purchased my services as a Christmas present. It was fun giving him options for the new ‘business casual’ look and finding a solid blend of informal wear for weekends, reflecting his personality.”
Lindsey will also do a la carte services. “I recently put together an outfit for a woman who was going to a big fund raiser in Boston (with Movie Stars in attendance); she called me at the last minute breathlessly telling me she was having a fashion emergency…” Suffice to say, the next day—after several long conversations—Lindsey knew just what would work for her. After driving to the new Nordstrom in Natick and “striking gold”, she brought the clothes right to the women’s office in Boston, where they had a discreet fitting. “Thankfully, she was thrilled…”
Lindsey has a growing list of clients throughout the Boston metro area, mainly through “word-of-mouth” and referrals. “It’s amazing how people feel when you clean out their closet and make room for current styles that they’re actually excited about," says Foley. “And it’s very gratifying to see a happy client at the end of this process. The best thing is to see them feeling a renewed sense of confidence…”
Or as one of her clients puts it: "Lindsey has transformed my wardrobe. I've gotten so many compliments on the clothing and outfits Lindsey has suggested. Because of Lindsey, I feel good about what I'm wearing and am excited when I look in my closet."
